Qualifications: · Bachelor’s degree in education. · Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate in the field of Special Education (Cross-Categorical preferred) · Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card. · Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Reports To: Director of Special Education Site Director Position Objective: To help build and enhance the self-image of the students through appropriate academic instruction, positive reinforcement and successful school experience. Responsibilities: Program Planning and Evaluation · Assists in the identification and evaluation of students in need of special education programs. · Develops and maintains students Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s). · Schedule and lead student IEP meetings · Works with individual students and small groups when necessary. · Administers, transfers, and interprets diagnostic data as appropriate to his/her area. · Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere. · Adapts the curriculum with individual plans and instructional materials to the needs of each pupil. · Evaluates student’s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. · Maintains a program inventory of materials and supplies. · Participates in the developing of a District-in-service educational program. Communication: Maintains lines of communication with: o Staff teachers o Students o Parents o Director of Special Education o Site Director Kinds of communication: o Faculty meetings o Grade-level and special education meetings o Dissemination of pertinent announcements and procedures o Parent-student-teacher conferences o Professional literature o Relate to the Site Coordinator and Director of special education all items of school concern o Submit reports to the administration and the special education department as needed Supervision: o Maintains proper and adequate supervision of students at all times. o Assists in supervising students in related activities outside of immediate classroom. Professional Growth and Preparation: o Possesses a broad knowledge of special education and is able to transfer this knowledge into program activities. o Responsible for maintaining his/her personal growth and development in the areas of special education. o Reads professional literature pertinent to the field of special education. o Willing to participate in self-evaluation activities in order to improve one’s self/professional outlook.
